This meeting of national platforms for disaster risk reduction was held in Paris on 7-8 December 2006, convened by AFPCN, the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
The participation of about forty representatives of European countries (Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Romania, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland), European institutions (European Parliament, DG Research, DG Information Society), international organisations (ISDR, UNESCO, OECD, Council of Europe) have allowed everyone to exchange about their respective contribution to disaster risk reduction.
During this meeting, the invited countries - within and outside EU - have demonstrated significant interest about the proposed establishment of a network of national platforms in Europe. Interventions and presentations have contributed to define the needs for and objectives of such a network in the international arena.
Participants assigned to a working group, supported by France, Germany and Switzerland, the task of proposing an action program for cooperation among participating national platforms. Implementation would be reported back during the first session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (Geneva, June 2007).
On 23 April 2007, the Basel Agreement was signed by DKKV (Germany), PLANAT (Switzerland) and AFPCN (France), establishing a European Network of National Platforms (ENNP).
